Sincona sale 88, lot 68

This specimen was lot 68 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$132 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"IRAN, Afsharid Dynasty, Nader Shah, as king, 1148-1160 AH (1735-1747). 6 Shahi 1151 AH (1738), Isfahan Mint. Gutes sehr schön; Good very fine. Purchased from A. Saeedi, London, in 1986."

Nadir Shah was the power behind the throne in the last years of the Safavids. Finally, he tired of ruling thru puppets and seized the throne for himself in AH 1148. This silver six shahi (1½ abbasi) was minted soon after he proclaimed himself shah. It was also struck at Mashhad, Nadirabad, Qandahar, Shiraz, Tabriz and Tiflis and is called "type C" in the literature.
