This specimen was lot 7803 in Ponterio sale 152 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $805. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GUATEMALA. 1/2 Real, 1824-M. KM-2. Sharply struck, very attractive. PCGS MS-63." This type was struck at the Guatemala mint 1824 only. The later issues (1831-49) from Costa Rica are considerably more common. The type is listed in the SCWC under the Central American Republic. This federation was an attempt to unite all the former Spanish provinces of Central America into one country but collapsed amid recrimination and civil war.
