This specimen was lot 32141 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $6,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "Poland: Danzig. John Casimir gold Ducat 1657-DL AU Details (Mount Removed) NGC. An exceptional offering, an immensely popular type with exquisite detail. Indeed, the level of definition achieved from the strike may even exceed that of the MS62 example we offered in our January 2015 New York sale, which realized $14,000 hammer! This piece showcases a pristine portrait of John Casimir, presented on a rich-gold planchet toned a light peach, essentially no areas of weakness anywhere on the surfaces of this crisply-struck numismatic jewel. Scarcely encountered let alone with the eye appeal of this piece, guaranteed to strongly appeal to a collector of the Polish numismatic series with an interest in Danzig." This type was struck 1649-57 and accompanied a double ducat (Fr-22).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.50 g, 0.986 fine gold.
