This specimen was part of lot 30610 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), which sold for $1,938.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI 8 Coin Certified Proof Set 1944, KM-PS16. Mintage: 150 sets. All coins certified by NGC as follows: Farthing, PR65 Brown, 1/2 Penny, PR64 Brown, Penny, PR65 Brown, 3 Pence, PR64, 6 Pence, PR66, Shilling, PR63, 2 Shillings, PR65, 2.5 Shillings, PR64. A most attractive Proof set, featuring three bronze coins that display glossy, chestnut-brown color and impeccably struck design elements. The remaining silver denominations all present frosty, mirrored fields with a dramatic amount of iridescent rainbow tone throughout. A superb, matching set, with incredible eye appeal. Scarce in these select designations and highly-collectible as such." The half penny was struck in South Africa 1923-60. This date is common.

Recorded mintage: 3,920,000 plus 150 proofs.

Specification: 5.67 g, bronze, 25 mm diameter, plain edge.

Catalog reference: KM 24, KM-PS16 (proof set).
