This specimen was lot 4215 in Sincona sale 43 (Zurich, October 2017), where it sold for 3,600 CHF (about US$4,296 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Doppelduplone 1795. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. FDC. (city and canton of Bern, double duplone of 1795. Very rare in this condition, Uncirculated.)"
This expensive type is listed for 1793-95 while the canton was under the domination of the French revolution. In Geneva, this coin was a double pistole; in Luzern, a 24 munzgulden, in Solothurn, a double duplone. The coin is modeled on a double louis d'or of France.
