This specimen was lot 2593 in Sincona sale 43 (Zurich, October 2017), where it sold for 225 CHF (about US$269 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"THE NETHERLANDS | Geldern, Herzogtum, Philipp II. 1555-1598 Ecu Philippe 157(3). Sehr schön. Flaue Stellen. (Spanish Netherlands, duchy of Gelderland, Philip II, 1555-98, écu Philippe of 1573, Very fine, Weak areas.)"
Davenport lists this type for 1573 only; hence, we know the date even tho the last digit is illegible. Altho the breach between the northern provinces and Philip II was virtually complete by 1573, the king's bust was retained as the last attempt to extend a peace feeler.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 33.90 g.
Catalog reference: Delm. 33 var. Dav-8494.
