This specimen was lot 6868 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Tuscany. Piastra, 1575. Francesco I de Medici (1574-87). NGC VF-30. Even wear along the high points, attractive flannel grey tone. From the Estate Collection of Dr. Richard Doty." After the Florentine republic collapsed, it was reconstituted as the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, ruled by the Medicis until 1723. The type is listed in Davenport for 1575 only. Like most Italian crowns of the sixteenth century, it is rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
Specification: silver.
Catalog reference: CNI-XII, 288, 21; MIR-181/2; Dav-8385.
