This specimen was lot 1751 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $174. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bombay, British (India), rupee, Victoria, 1886-B, NGC MS 63. Bold design details from a strong strike, faint colorful toning over flashy surfaces, perhaps a bit conservatively graded." This type was issued at Calcutta and Bombay 1877-1901 in a bewildering array of varieties, including proofs, off-metal strikes and restrikes. The type is the largest silver denomination. It is distinguished from the type issued 1862-76 by the obverse legend, "VICTORIA EMPRESS" instead of "VICTORIA QUEEN." This date features an incuse mintmark.
