Ponterio sale 150, lot 9329

This coin was lot 9329 in Ponterio sale 150 (Los Angeles, August 2009), where it sold for $2,415. The catalog description[1] noted, "CUBA. 'ABC' Peso, 1937. Key date of series. PCGS MS-64." The type was struck in the United States for Cuba 1934-39 using silver dollar blanks. Most were held in government vaults as backing for paper currency and later melted; the original mintage has little bearing on the number of survivors.

Recorded mintage: 11,500,000 (most melted).

Specification: 26.73 g, 0.900 fine silver, .773 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 22.
