Sedwick sale 12, lot 1589

This specimen was lot 1589 in Sedwick sale 12 (Winter Park, FL, October 2012), where it sold for $200.60. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, pillar 1 real, Charles III, 1761JM. Nicely toned AXF with some dark sediment in crevices, no problems." This type was struck 1760-1772 for king Carlos III. As a class, pillar coinage of Peru is much less plentiful than that of Mexico, though it is more available than the remaining mints.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.917 fine silver, .100 troy oz ASW, this specimen 3.4 g.

Catalog reference: Cayón-11246, L-05-13, KM-61; CT-1477.
