Great Britain 1875 penny

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale, lot 22966

This specimen was lot 22966 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $105. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Penny, 1875. PCGS MS-63 BN Secure Holder. Nice even glossy brown surfaces. From the Brighton Collection." This penny was struck 1874-94 in several varieties and is common, tho the proofs are rare. Worn specimens fill dealer junk boxes. Numerous varieties exist.

Recorded mintage: 10,691,000 incl. large and small dates.

Specification: 9.4 g, bronze, 30.8 mm diameter.
