This specimen was lot 797 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €320 (about US$433 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRABANT, Duché, Philippe IV (1621-1665), AR ducaton, 1654, Anvers. Deuxième type. D/ B. dr. et cuir. à d. R/ Ecu couronné, tenu par deux lions. En dessous, le bijou de la Toison d'or. presque Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Philip IV, 1621-65, silver ducaton of 1636, Antwerp mint, second type. Obverse: draped and armored bust to right; reverse: crowned arms supported by two lions, the jewels of the Golden Fleece below. about Very Fine.)"
The regular type, issued 1636-65 from Antwerp (with hand mintmark) and Brussels, is scarce but not rare. The multiple ducatons, which include double and quadruple issues, are all rare. Triple ducatons of this portrait were struck intermittently 1637-57. The other provinces issued this type, including Artois, Flanders, Tournai and Luxembourg.
