Steve Album sale 30, lot 1677
Morocco SA30-1677r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1677 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it sold for $223.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "MOROCCO: al-Hasan II, 1962-1999, dirham, 1974/AH1394, PCGS Specimen pop-2/0, total 2, finest and only grade by PCGS, PCGS graded Specimen 65, ex King's Norton Mint Collection." Morocco, unlike the rest of the Maghreb, was never under Ottoman control or even influence, being ruled by native dynasts. It was briefly (1912-56) partitioned between France and Spain but was restored to its native dynasty after World War Two, which family still rules today. This type was issued 1974 only. The next dirham would be minted in 1987.

Recorded mintage: 32,850,000 plus 30 in gold (Y63a).

Specification: 6 g, copper-nickel, 24 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-Y63.
