Ponterio sale 169, lot 34813
GB 1773 farthing rev P177-34813.jpg

This specimen was lot 34813 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $200. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Farthing, 1773. NGC AU-55 BN." This type was issued 1771-75. It is not rare but it did little to alleviate the small change shortage of the late eighteenth century. The next farthing issue is dated 1799.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: S-3775; KM-602.
