H3067-31630r.jpg

This specimen was lot 31630 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: George III Proof Farthing 1771 PR66 Brown NGC. A majestic Proof issue with incredible device definition and subtly glossy surfaces. Given the quality of this example, it is not surprising that this remains the finest graded example at NGC. This is by a full five points, the only other Proof example grading PR61." This type was issued 1771-75. It is not rare but it did little to alleviate the small change shortage of the late eighteenth century. The next farthing issue is dated 1799.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: S.3775, KM 602, Peck-910.
