This specimen was lot 1269 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2019), where it sold for $95.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, 1/4 real, 1795JI. Bold strike with deep rainbow toning, XF with parts of rims crude (as made), plugged hole near edge." Two types of cuartillas were struck at the beginning of the series: KM 99 (portrait type) struck 1792-96 and KM 102.1 (lions/castles without value, shown here) struck 1794-96. Both are scarce compared to the regular lions and castles type struck 1796-1821.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 0.84 g, .896 fine silver, .024 troy oz ASW, this specimen 0.85 gram.
