Jean Elsen sale 147, lot 1914

This specimen was lot 1914 in Jean Elsen sale 147 (Brussels, June 2021), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIE, TOSCANE, Ferdinand III de Lorraine, restauré (1814-1824), AR 1 lira, 1821, Florence. Patine foncée. Très Beau à Superbe. (grand duchy of Tuscany, Ferdinand III of Lorraine, restored 1814-24, silver one lira of 1821, Florence mint. Nice patina, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

This type is listed for 1821-23. These obscure little Italian states coins don't catalog for much but are very difficult to find. The lira was one seventh of a francescone, the Tuscan equivalent of a piastra, whereas the Sardinian lira was equal to a French franc (5 g, .900 fine silver).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 4.08 g, 0.917 fine silver.
