This specimen was lot 24065 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "Henry VIII (1509-47) gold Angel ND, 1st Coinage of 1509-26, Portcullis Crowned mm, AU55 NGC, a pleasing coin on a broad flan without cracks, nice surfaces, central motifs fairly well detailed, legends wonderfully sharp and easy to read, old-gold reddish toning. An excellent example of this coinage." Angels and half angels continued to be struck into the reign of Henry VIII but were raised in value in 1526, the angel going from seven shillings to seven shillings six pence.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: gold, 80 grains.
