Sincona sale 43, lot 3722

This specimen was lot 3722 in Sincona sale 43 (Zurich, October 2017), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$328 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916 8 Forint-20 Francs 1882. Kremnitz. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Kingdom of Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, eight florins or twenty francs of 1882, Kremnitz mint. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This type was issued for Hungary 1880-90 from the Kremnitz (Komoczbanya in Magyar) mint during the reign of Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria-Hungary. The denomination was struck 1870-92 to match the standard of the French twenty francs d'or. Most dates are common. After the reorganization of the Hapsburg empire into the Dual Monarchy in 1867, Hungary received her own coinage separate from Austrian issues. In the aftermath of World War One, the Hapsburg monarchy collapsed and Hungary became independent but without its former territories in Slovakia, Transylvania and Croatia.

Recorded mintage: 304,152.

Specification: 6.45 g, .900 fine gold, .186 troy oz AGW, 21 mm diameter, this specimen 6.45 g.

Catalog reference: Herinek 36A, Veselý 90, Huszar 2117, Schl. 65. Fr-243, KM-467.
