Hungary 1881-KB 8 forint
This specimen was lot 3468 in Goldberg sale 84 (Los Angeles, January 2015), where it sold for $299.62. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hungary. 8 Forint-20 Francs, 1881-KB. Franz Joseph I. PCGS graded MS-63." This type was issued for Hungary 1880-90 from the Kremnitz (Komoczbanya in Magyar) mint during the reign of Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria-Hungary. The denomination was struck 1870-92 to match the standard of the French twenty francs d'or. Most dates are common. After the reorganization of the Hapsburg empire into the Dual Monarchy in 1867, Hungary received her own coinage separate from Austrian issues. In the aftermath of World War One, the Hapsburg monarchy collapsed and Hungary became independent but without its former territories in Slovakia, Transylvania and Croatia.
