This specimen was lot 23310 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "George V Proof Fourpence 1911, choice Proof, first year of issue where the total mintage for the three year type is 90,000 pieces. It makes sense that a few Proofs would be struck for the first year of issue, to be sent to museums around the world. This piece has more of a Matte finish, but the strike and edges show that this coin was produced for a special purpose. Believed to be part of the Melbourne Mint duplicates sale. From The Ted Reams Collection." This type is noted for 1911, 1913 and 1916 and was struck to the standard of a British homeland four pence, then only struck for the Maundy sets.
