This specimen was lot 963 in Jean Elsen sale 111 (Brussels, December 2011), where it sold for 600 euro (about US$923 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, HENNEBERG, Georg Ernst (1559-1583), AR Taler, 1567, Droit : B. cuirassé à droite. Revers : Ecu écartelé sous deux heaumes. Au-dessus, le différent [HN] entre deux étoiles. Très Rare. Nettoyé. Trace de bélière. Beau à Très Beau. (Germany, Henneberg, George Ernest (1559-83), silver thaler of 1567. Obverse: armored bust to right; reverse: quartered arms below two helmets. Very rare, cleaned, trace of mounting, fine to very fine.)"
After the local dynasty fell extinct in 1580, this small county in Thuringia was divided among various dukes of Saxony, including that of Saxe-Meiningen, Saxe-Gotha and Saxe-Weimar.
