This type was issued by the Philippines for circulation 1983-93, to be superseded in 1995 by a copper plated steel coin (KM 273). Today, with US$1 = 48 PHP (approximately), no coins smaller than a peso circulate. This date is common. Lapu-Lapu, the local chief believed to have killed Magellan, was featured on this denomination 1967-93. His portrait is conjectural.

Recorded mintage: 62,090,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 0.7 g, aluminum, 15.5 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 238.
