The coin shown is a gold five qirsh from the reign of Sultan Abdul Aziz. It was struck at the Cairo Mint. The obverse bears the toughra, or signature, of the sultan. Below the toughra is the denomination (qirsh), abbreviated as 'sh', with the number 5 above. The reverse carries the ascension date and the text minted in Misr (Misr is Arabic for Egypt). The date is written as AH 1277 year 8, which translates to about 1867 AD. Uslu[2] lists this issue as rare.

The coin pictured was lot 1525 in auction #403 by Dr. Busso Peus Nachf. (Frankfurt, April 2011), where it sold for approximately $240. The catalog description noted, "Ägypten ´Abd al-Aziz, 1861-1876 5 Piaster 1277 H, Jahr 8, Misr. Vorzüglich (Egypt, Sultan Abdul Aziz (1861-76) five piastres of 1277, year 8. Extremely Fine.)"
