Egypt AH 1277(8) 10 para KM-242
The coin shown is a copper ten para from the reign of Sultan Abdul Aziz. The obverse bears the toughra, or signature, of the sultan, with the denomination written below (abbreviated as the letter P for para) with the number 10. A flower to the right of the toughra indicates that it is from the Cairo mint. The reverse carries the ascension date and the text minted in Misr (Misr is Arabic for Egypt). The date is written as AH 1277 year 8, which translates to about 1867 AD. Uslu[1] lists this issue as rare.
This example was lot 13275 and sold on Sept 9, 2004 for $414 at the 2004 September (HWCA) Signature Sale #357 by Heritage Auctions. The catalog description read:
"Abdul Aziz Copper 10 Para 1277AH Year 8, the very rare local Cairo Mint type with the flower ornament added to the right of the tughra. Bold VF-XF, very minor porosity and a noticeable rim nick on the obverse at 6 o'clock. The obverse has been cleaned long ago, while the reverse is brown and completely original.
