This specimen was lot 1626 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. Bern. 2 Duplone, 1794. PCGS MS-62 Secure Holder. Seldom seen two year type. Bright mint luster. From the Ervin F. Bickley Collection of Swiss Coins." This expensive type is listed for 1793-95 while the canton was under the domination of the French revolution. In Geneva, this coin was a double pistole; in Luzern, a 24 munzgulden, in Solothurn, a double duplone. The coin is modeled on a double louis d'or of France.
