Stack's Bowers 2020 NYINC sale, lot 22558
France SB120-22558r.jpg

This specimen was lot 22558 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 20 Euros, 2003. Brilliant Proof Uncirculated. Brilliant proof with hard mirrored surfaces and frosted devices. Sold in original display case with rendition of Mona Lisa on lid, and certificate of authenticity #0037. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS." This NCLT was accompanied by a silver ten euro (KM 2004). The treaty which established the euro in 1999 gave specifications for the one cent thru two euro coins which are legal tender throughout the European Union. Higher denominations are not legal tender and each country is free to issue commemoratives as it sees fit, a right the Paris mint has ruthlessly exploited.

Recorded mintage: 999.

Specification: 163.80 g, 0.950 fine silver, 5 oz ASW, 50 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-2004.
