In 1956, France evacuated her colony of Morocco, returning it to the independence the kingdom had enjoyed prior to 1912. Mohammed V, ruler since since 1927, resumed the royal title his father Yusuf had held. This specimen was lot 21419 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MOROCCO. Dirham, AH 1384 (1965). PCGS SP-66 Secure Holder. KM-E47. Pattern version of KM Y56 struck in nickel. Fully brilliant with 'Essay' inscribed in Arabic above the denomination. See also the pattern 5 Dirhams we are offering in this sale."

Recorded mintage: 30,000,000.

Specification: 6 g, nickel, 24 mm diameter.
