Stack's Bowers 2019 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72011

This specimen was lot 72011 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 3 Pence, 1575. London Mint; im: eglantine. Elizabeth I. NGC AU-50. Some minor roughness is noted on the obverse, but this charming minor remains an exceptional example of the type, exhibiting little actual wear. Ex: Pittman Collection." This type, from the fourth issue, among the first dated coins of England, was struck 1567-77 with various mintmarks. It is among the more available coins of the reign.
