Sincona sale 63, lot 171

This specimen was lot 171 in Sincona sale 63 (Zurich, June 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA | Volksrepublik, 50 Yuan 2002. Panda. Kleines Datum. Selten. Polierte Platte. (peoples republic of China, fifty yuan of 2002, panda. Small date, Rare, Choice Proof.)" The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. The gold panda is one of the most popular. Prior to 2001, the one tenth ounce panda was denominated 10 yuan.

Recorded mintage: 36,092 proofs.

Specification: 3.11 g, 0.999 fine gold, this specimen 3.13 g.
