Goldberg sale 103, lot 2400
France G103-2400r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2400 in Goldberg sale 103 (Los Angeles, February 2018), where it sold for $340.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. 10 Euro, 2003. Tou[r] de France logo. Cyclist. In original box. Choice Brilliant Proof." The treaty which established the euro in 1999 gave specifications for the one cent thru two euro coins which are legal tender throughout the European Union. Higher denominations are not legal tender and each country is free to issue commemoratives as it sees fit, a right the Paris mint has ruthlessly exploited. This quarter ounce gold coin honors the centennial of the Tour de France. Numerous other ten euro NCLT's exist for 2003, including KM-1348, -1352, -1362, -1992.

Recorded mintage: 5,000 proofs.

Specification: 8.45 g, .920 fine gold, 22 mm diameter, 0.250 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM-1326.
