This type, struck 1809-28 in reasonable quantities, is available in circulated condition. It was slightly modified in 1828 to allow the use of steam powered presses. This date is very scarce, verging on rare. The original poster noted, "This coin is from the famous Eliasberg and Chapman Collection and is graded PCGS AU-58. This coin is by far the most difficult coin to locate in the series. There are 6 sets posted in the registry and not one has a 1809."
Recorded mintage: 51,065.
Specification: 2.70 g, .892 fine silver, .076 try oz ASW, 18.8 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by John Reich.
Catalog reference: KM 42.
