Sincona sale 6, lot 1130

This specimen was lot 1130 in Sincona sale 6 (Zurich, May 2012), where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$588 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH Louis XIV. 1643-1715. Ecu aux trois couronnes 1715, Lyon. Büste im antiken Harnisch rechts. Rv. Drei Kronen und drei Lilien, darin Mzz. D. Reformation. Gutes sehr schön. (France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, écu aux trois couronnes of 1715, Lyon mint. Obverse: armored bust to right; reverse: three crowns in circle, fleur-de-lys between, mintmark in center. Reformed, very fine.)"

This type was struck 1709-15 and is among the common écus of the Sun King, tho this is a better date.

Recorded mintage: common.

Specification: 30.59 g, .917 fine silver; this specimen is 30,54 g.
