Sincona sale 43, lot 3312

This specimen was lot 3312 in Sincona sale 43 (Zurich, October 2017), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$955 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Kingdom, Louis XIV. 1643-1715 1/2 Louis dor à lecu 1691 A. Paris Réformation. Sehr schön. Überprägungsspuren. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, demi-louis of the shield of 1691, Paris mint, reformed. Very fine, Overstruck.)"

The demi-louis d'or is much scarcer than its larger brother, tho this type, the demi-louis d'or a l'écu, turns up occasionally. It was issued 1690-1693.

Recorded mintage: 287,693 rf.

Specification: 3.37 g, .917 fine gold, 20-21 mm diameter, this specimen 3.30 g.
