This specimen was lot 33019 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "George III gold Guinea 1789 XF45 NGC. A splendid type, red-gold throughout with the usual scattering of handling marks for this well-used trade coinage. From the Lake County Collection." This type, the commonest of several used during George's long reign, is noted for 1787-99. The reform of 1817 terminated all guinea-denominated issues in favor of the sovereign. At that time the guinea, which heretofore had varied in value, was fixed at 21 shillings.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 8.35 g, .917 fine gold, .246 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: S-3729, KM 609.
