Sincona sale 51, lot 2705

This specimen was lot 2705 in Sincona sale 51 (Zurich, October 2018), where it sold for 1,600 CHF (about US$1,930 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Reza Shah, 1344-1360 AH (1925-1941). 2 Pahlavi SH 1305 (1926). Sehr selten. Nur 1.134 Exemplare geprägt. Vorzüglich. (empire of Iran, Reza Shah, 1344-1360 AH (1925-1941), double pahlavi of SH 1305. Very rare. Only 1134 pieces struck. Extremely fine.)"

This is a rare one year type. It was accompanied by one and five pahlavis along with a final issue of tomans. For 1927-28, Reza Shah struck double pahlavis bearing his portrait (KM 1115). In 1941, the pahlavi was reformed to match the gold content of the British sovereign.

Recorded mintage: 1,134.

Specification: 3.84 g, .900 fine gold, 30 mm diameter, this specimen 3.79 g.

Catalog reference: KM 1112, Fr-89.
