In 1949, the mint suspended the production of bronze centavos and in 1950 introduced this brass centavo of reduced weight. It was struck every year during 1950-69 and all dates are readily available altho assembling a set of unspotted specimens is a challenge. The superseding design (KM 418) was reduced to 1.5 grams.

Recorded mintage: 25,740,000.

Specification: 2 g, brass, 16 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 417.
