This specimen was lot 555 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRABANT, Duché, Bruxelles assiégée par Alexandre Farnèse (1579-1580), AR plaque uniface de 18 sols, 1580. D/ PERFER ET OBDVRA BRVXELLA Ecu au saint Michel, tête casquée, terrassant le dragon, accosté de la date, sous la valeur ·18· ST·. Eclat du flan. Superbe. (duchy of Brabant, Brussels besieged by Alexander Farnese, silver uniface plaque of 18 sols of 1580. Obverse: arms of St. Michael wearing a helmet and slaying the dragon divides the date, value below. Nicked, Extremely Fine.)"
Farnese eventually reconquered the southern low Countries for Spain but besieged and destroyed Maastricht, Brussels, Tournai and Antwerp in the process. His campaign against the northern provinces was a destructive failure.
