This specimen was lot 13007 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $8,225. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 1/2 Penny, 1934. NGC PROOF-64 RB. RARE Proof with Mintage of 100 Pieces. RARE. Mintage of only 100 pieces. Only one certified higher by NGC. Brilliant and attractive. From the Demarete Collection." The type was issued 1911-36 with Melbourne being the sole producer after 1926. This Melbourne date is common up thru extremely fine but the proofs are rare.
Recorded mintage: 3,816,000 plus 100 proofs.
Specification: 5.67 g, bronze, 25.5 mm diameter.
