Denmark 1722-CW 12 skilling

from the Stack's Bowers 2017 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72105

This specimen was lot 72105 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it sold for $235. The catalog description^[1] noted, "DENMARK. 12 Skilling, 1722-CW. NGC MS-63. Nearly full white with soft satin luster." At the time, the monetary system was 12 penning = 1 skilling, 16 skillings = 1 mark, 4 mark = 1 krone, 6 mark = 1 daler specie, 2 daler specie = 1 ducat. This coin was theoretically one eighth of a daler specie but is a little light on silver. The type is not rare but expensive in high grade, tho this specimen did not realize the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 3.89 g, .562 fine silver, struck 1720-22.
