Stack's Bowers May 2025 Collectors Choice Online Auction, lot 74377

This specimen was lot 74377 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH WEST AFRICA. 3 Pence, 1933. George V. PCGS MS-65." This type was struck 1920, 1925-28, 1933-36 in substantial numbers and is scarce only in top condition. British West Africa was a currency union of Nigeria, the Gold Coast (now Ghana), Sierra Leone and the Gambia, in effect 1912-65.

Recorded mintage: 2,800,000 plus proofs.

Specifications: 1.41 g, tin-brass (79%Cu-20%Zn-1%Sn), 16.3 mm diameter.
