Sincona sale 98, lot 4598

This specimen was lot 4598 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 2,250 CHF (about US$3,264 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zug, Stadt und Kanton, 1/6 Assis 1751, Zug. Zugerwappen in deutschem Schild. Rv. Fünf Zeilen Schrift, Jahreszahl und Beizeichen. Schön-sehr schön. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zug, one-sixth assis of 1751, Zug mint. Obverse: cantonal arms in German shield; reverse: five line inscription with date. Fine-Very Fine.)"

The SCWC lists this type for 1747-52, 1756-57, 1761-67. Like many low denomination coins, it is common in low grade but rare in choice condition, no contemporaries thinking it worth hoarding. It was equal to the angster (1/600 thaler).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 0.2 g, billon, 12 mm diameter, this specimen 0.18 g.

Catalog reference: KM 56, Tobler (1/6 Assis) 21a. Wielandt (Zug) 130. D.T. 645d, HMZ 2-1105u.
