Italy 1928-R 20 lire Dav-145

Sincona sale 59, lot 1608

This specimen was lot 1608 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$333 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"ITALY | Königreich, Vittorio Emanuele III. 1900-1946. 20 Lire 1928 / Anno VI R, Roma. FDC. (kingdom of Italy, Victor Emanuel III, 1900-46, twenty lire of 1928, Rome mint. Uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1926-34. The issues of 1927 and 1928 were of substantial mintage but few seem to have been released as they are seldom seen. The other dates were for presentation only. Vittorio Emanuele III succeeded his father Umberto upon the latter's assassination in 1900, but by 1928 he was the helpless tool of the Fascists.

Recorded mintage: 2,487,000.

Specification: 15 g, 0.800 fine silver, designed by Giuseppe Romagnoli, this specimen 15.05 g.
