Steve Album sale 51, lot 2675

This specimen was lot 2675 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $510. The catalog description[1] noted, "MYSORE: Tipu Sultan, 1782-1799, AE 1/2 paisa, Bengalur, AM1219, elephant left, fabulous strike, choice XF." This type was struck years AM 1216-1220 and is common. One rupee was 64 paisa. The Mauludi Era (AM) was a calendar invented and used only by Tipu Sultan and it lapsed after his death in battle in 1799. Many mints issued these copper paisa in dozens of styles.
