This specimen was lot 43488 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 16 Ore "Klippe", 1565. Erik XIV. NGC VF-35." Erik XIV (1543-77) succeeded his father Gustav Vasa in 1560. After displaying symptoms of insanity, he was deposed by his half brother John III in 1568 and spent the rest of his life in prison. One mark was eight öre. This klippe was struck at Gramunkeholmens 1562-65 along with eight, four and two öre klippes.
