This South American crown is one of the classic designs of the series. Fortunately for collectors, it is not rare in circulated condition altho the Arequipa issue (KM 170.3) is very rare. The South Peru issues are the result of a short-lived confederation of Peru and Bolivia 1836-39. The second specimen was lot 30177 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. South Peru. 8 Reales, 1838-C BA. Cuzco Mint. NGC MS-62. Exceeded in the NGC census by a mere five specimens, this enchanting, nearly-Choice crown offers a great deal of lustrous brilliance remaining along with some subtle toning sprinkled throughout. An alluring and highly pleasing representative, and one that should generate a good deal of interest in this alluring 'sunface' representative."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 27.07 g, 0.896 fine silver, .780 troy oz ASW, this specimen: 27.15 grams.
