This specimen was lot 3553 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1,265. The catalog description[1] noted, "1838 MS 1/2 escudo. Cuzco mint. South Peru. MS-62 (NGC). Types as above. Deep and lustrous yellow gold, some hairlines and light dirt specks in the legends. A nice example with minimal signs of handling. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942."
