This specimen was lot 1858 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €60 (about US$86 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Keizer Karel (1506-1555), Cu korte, 1544, Brugge. Vz/ Gekroond hoofd r. Kz/ Klimmende leeuw l. Vlekjes kopergroen. Zeer Fraai à Prachtig. (county of Flanders, emperor Charles V, 1506-55, copper korte of 1544, Bruges mint. Obverse: crowned bust right; reverse: lion rampant left. Spots of verdigris, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"
Judging from the weight, we guess that this tiny coin was worth one-third of a liard. Numista notes this type for 1543-55 and undated and states the total mintage was 5,964,297. A similar coin was struck in Antwerp, where it was called a double minte instead of a korte.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.91 g, copper, 19 mm diameter, this specimen 1,84 g.
Catalog reference: G.H. 198-5b; V.H. 234.
