This specimen was lot 5254 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011), where it sold for 2,800 CHF (about US$3,725 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
(Austria, Maximilian II, 1564-76, guldenthaler of 1566, Prague mint. Obverse: crowned, armored bust to right with scepter and orb. Reverse: crowned, nimbate double-heded eagle with crowned arms on the bust. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
This particular type is a very early gulden, and is a product of the Prague mint in Bohemia. Davenport does not list it in his catalog of thalers as it is too light. The guldenthaler would soon be shortened to gulden and its weight slide from five-sixths to about two-thirds of a thaler. Bohemia was not added to the Hapsburg dominions until 1526.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 24,63 g.
