Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74786
SB924-74786r.jpg

This specimen was lot 74786 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 6 Pence, 1828. London Mint. George IV. PCGS MS-65. A lovely example of the type with lustrous champagne-hued surfaces and generous portions of icy blue with hints of gold and carmine. A very attractive, high grade coin." This three year type is noted for 1826-29. The mintage recorded here represents a substantial retreat from the levels of 1817-20, when millions were made; this type is decidedly expensive in nice condition. Large mintages would resume in 1834.

Recorded mintage: 16,000.

Specification: 2.82 g, 0.925 fine silver.

Catalog reference: S-3815; KM-698.
